PDF/UA-1 rule 7.1-5: Non-standard structure type … is not mapped to a standard type

Not fixed automatically structure

What veraPDF reports

Non-standard structure type %1 is not mapped to a standard type

veraPDF rule 7.1-5 = ISO 14289-1:2014 clause 7.1, test 5, checked on PDF object SENonStandard.

What the requirement says

All non-standard structure types shall be mapped to the nearest functionally equivalent standard type, as defined in ISO 32000-1:2008, 14.8.4, in the role map dictionary of the structure tree root. This mapping may be indirect; within the role map a non-standard type can map directly to another non-standard type, but eventually the mapping shall terminate at a standard type

Can it be fixed automatically?

Not fixed automatically. This failure needs the authoring tool or manual remediation; the automatic fix does not change it.

How to fix it by hand

The document needs a correct tag tree (structure). The reliable way is to export from the authoring application with “tagged PDF” / “document structure tags for accessibility” enabled; otherwise the tags are corrected in a PDF editor.
