PDF/UA-1 rule 7.2-43: Table rows 1 and … span different number of columns

Not fixed automatically structure, table

What veraPDF reports

Table rows 1 and %1 span different number of columns (%2 and %3 respectively)

veraPDF rule 7.2-43 = ISO 14289-1:2014 clause 7.2, test 43, checked on PDF object SETable.

In Adobe Acrobat’s Accessibility Checker the closest item is “Regularity”.

What the requirement says

Table rows shall have the same number of columns (taking into account column spans)

Can it be fixed automatically?

Not fixed automatically. This failure needs the authoring tool or manual remediation; the automatic fix does not change it.

How to fix it by hand

Table tags are fixed in the structure tree: mark header rows/cells in the authoring application before export (e.g. “repeat as header row” in Word), or correct the table tags and header cells in a PDF editor's tag tree / table editor.
