BR-O-02: VAT ID not allowed with VAT category O (not subject to VAT)

fatal CII UBL

What this error means and how to fix it

Your invoice has a line with VAT category code O (“Not subject to VAT”), and it also contains a VAT identifier: the seller’s (BT-31), the seller tax representative’s (BT-63) or the buyer’s (BT-48). For category O, EN 16931 does not allow any of the three. Fix: if the supply really is outside the scope of VAT, remove those VAT identifiers (a seller tax registration number, BT-32, and the legal registration ID, BT-30, may stay). If the supply is in fact taxable, exempt or reverse-charged, use the matching category (S, E, AE, K, G) instead of O — then the VAT IDs are allowed or even required. This is an error: the invoice is rejected until it is fixed.
